Members assigned during the first semester of their fourth year conduct seminars twice weekly, centered around a ‘reading seminar’. A reading seminar involves a small group taking turns as instructors to read through a specialized book one person at a time. Students must thoroughly understand their assigned section, prepare explanatory materials, and present it in a way that other members can comprehend. During this process, the presenter becomes the teacher for the other students in the seminar, requiring them to explain clearly so everyone can understand. This process cultivates fundamental academic skills while enhancing presentation abilities and comprehension. In the second semester of the fourth year, students deepen their understanding of specialized knowledge related to their graduation research, such as equipment and principles. Through regular presentations, they track the progress of their graduation research. Simultaneously, discussions with the instructor and fellow students help define the research methodology and direction. By debating each other’s analysis results and exchanging opinions on their respective research findings, students develop advanced critical thinking skills and acquire broad knowledge.
In graduate school, higher-level research achievements in specialized fields are expected compared to undergraduate seniors. Weekly laboratory seminars are held, where students discuss research plans and progress reports with professors and fellow students. When research findings are finalized, presentations are made at academic conferences.
